Two honey bees are collecting pollen from Nightblooming cereus |
BEES AN ESSENTIAL RESOURCE.
Are you aware of the threatened status of the honey bee? The Federal Government has allocated $50 Million dollors for research into preserving bee populations. Bees pollinate many plants and foods (about 60% of all foods) and produce delicious honey. Many commercial food and fruit growers now pay Bee Keepers to bring their Bees and pollinate their crops. In parts of China the Bees have totally disappeared and crops like the pear trees have to be laboriously hand pollinated. The Australian Queen Bees are exported continuously to renew Bee populations around the world because our Bees are still relatively healthy. So next time you see a Bee…please consider the worth and value of this little insect.. Councillor Gerry Pule |
